The Mentor Cardinal Boys and Girls 4 x 800 meter relay teams both won gold at Austintown Division 1 Region 1 Track and Field Meet Wednesday night. The Mentor girls-team members Kylie Beucler, Ada Sabo, Annie Berrow and Savannah Dennison ran 9:17.40 to win the title.
The Mentor Boys ran 7:53.39 to earn their trip to Columbus. That team consisted of Michael Petrovic, Matthew Penkowski, Billy Dennison and Timmy Hordinski.
Other winners from Wednesday night included Abra Manofsky of Massillon Jackson in the girls high jump ( 5′ 3″), Courtney Clark of Howland in the girls shot put (43′ 1/2″), Malachi Collier in the boys long jump (22’00”) and Tyler Cherne in the boys discus (158′ 6″) and Layne Studer of GlenOak-pole vault (15′ 10″).
Finals continue Friday night with field events starting at 5 pm and running finals at 6:30. Top 4 from each event qualify for the state meet next weekend.
