Lumberjacks and Dukes capture D2 4×800 titles

The Lumberjacks of Oakwood successfully defended their State title in the D2 Girls 4×800 in a time of 9:14.83.  The quartet was made up of Bella Butler, Emma Almoney, Elizabeth Erwin and Grace Hartman.  They were in the top 4 for the majority of the race, and were finally able to break ahead with a strong leg from senior Grace Hartman.  A late charge by Peninsula Woodridge’s Reese Reaman almost changed the result, but Hartman was able to hold her off.  Woodridge finished 2nd in 9:15.58.

A year ago the Marlington Boys had finished 4th in the 4×800 relay, but this year they weren’t going to be denied.  The team of Liam Blake, Cohen Boyce, Noah Graham and Colin Cernansky took home the gold with a time of 7:49.66.  Cernansky got a big cheer from the crowd as he celebrated down the final strides of the home stretch, arms waving and a big smile on his face.  Beachwood finished runner up in 7:55.41.

Congratulations to both teams on a great race and a great season.
