The Twinsburg girls scored 52 points to edge Nordonia (49.5) to win the NEO region 1 track & field title at Austintown Friday night. First place finishers were Olivia Howell of Twinsburg who ran a 4:57 1600 and the Twinsburg girls 4 x 200 who ran a 1:39.73 (Alyssa Willis, Mariah Myles, Nia Robinson and Camari Griffin). By the way, the Twinsburg girls 4 x 200 will have the top seed time in division 1 girls going into the state track meet Friday in the 4 x 200 relay. Only regional record set was by Caisja Chandler of Euclid in the 200 meter dash. She ran an amazing 23.59 to set the new standard. She will be the # 1 seed in the 200 meter dash going into the state meet. It will be an amazing race in the D1 girls 200 with Chandler and Abby Steiner the current state record holder. The Nordonia girls 4 x 400 (Carmen Licht, Aja DuVall, Lizzy Gurko and Faith Banks) will be the # 1 seed going into the D1 state meet with a 3:48.92 clocking. Paige Floriea of Mentor will also be seeded # 1 in the long jump at 19′ 0″. Jahniya Bowers of Youngstown East had two first place finishes. She won the 100 meter dash in 11.81 and was a member of the 1st place school-recorded breaking 4 x 100 meter relay (47.76 Bowers, Kyndia Matlock, DeShante Allen and Johnae Coleman).
On the boys side, the Solon Comet boys scored 69 points to top 2nd place Hudson (38 points) for the regional title. The Comets finished off the evening with a 1st place finish in the boys 4 x 400 meter relay at 3:23.54. That quartet was comprised of Brett Shannon, Eli Phipps, Mark Shannon and David Howell. Giovanni Copploe of Canfield ran a 9:09.95 in the 3200, he’ll be #1 seed going into the state meet in the 3200. Andrew White of GlenOak in the discus threw 196′ 9″, he’ll also be the # 1 seed going in the the D1 state meet in the discus.
