It was a great day for track and field at the 38th Optimist Track & Field Meet at Greenwood Falcon Stadium in Austintown and the Twinsburg girls and Fitch boys track teams took advantage of same. The Twinsburg girls made it two in a row ( winning the Poland Invitational last Saturday) scoring 98 points to second place Fitch’s 67 points to win the title. Coach Delanda Jackson has her lady Tigers set to make some noise at the division 1 state track meet the first weekend in June. The Twinsburg girls were led by Nya Bussey who also made it two in a row (she won the Iron Bulldog award for most points at Poland last week) as she picked up awards for most points in running and overall most points in the meet (20). She won the 200 (25.14), was 4th in the 100 (12.24), and anchored the winning 400 and 800 relays. Michaelina Terranova (shown in picture )was second with 19 points. Of note was the winner of the girls 100 meter dash. Mia Knight of Beachwood ran a 11.89 (legal wind). This according to athletes.net is the 2nd fastest time in the state right now. On the boys side, Austintown Fitch scored 80.50 points to out pace Wadsworth (66) for the title. Most points award went to Etaijen Easter who won the long jump (21′ 9″), the high jump (6′ 6″) and was third in the 400 meter dash (51.31). Running events most points award went to Jakeith James of Cleveland Heights (21.25). He won the 100 meter dash (11.00), was 2nd in the 200 (22.25) and ran a leg on the 2nd place 400 relay and 4th place 800 relay. Field events most points went to Alex Hunter of Bedford (16). She was 2nd in the shot put (39′ 4.5″) and the discus (127′ 6″). Etaijen Easter also won the field events high points award scoring 20 points in the field events. He won the high jump and the long jump.
