St. Thomas Aquinas Girls and Maplewood Boys take home the gold

Going into the State meet, both the St. Thomas Aquinas girls and Maplewood boys were heavy favorites to win the 4×800 relays. On Friday morning they didn’t disappoint. The St. Thomas Aquinas girls took 1st place thanks to an awesome anchor leg run by Kalee Soehnlen. The winning quartet was made up of Athena Walsh (junior), Kacee Soehnlen (sophomore), Hannah Soehnlen (freshman) and Kalee Soehnlen (sophomore). You could say that the 4×800 relay is a family affair for St. Thomas Aquinas. Their winning time of 9:16.67 was 5 seconds off of their State record whi On the boys side it was all Maplewood. They ran away with the race, winning in a near Division 3 record time of 7:49.02. They broke their school record with that time, and became the 2nd fastest Division 3 4×800 meter relay in OHSAA history. The relay was made up of Tristan Dahmen (junior), Allen Sparks (junior), Jake Hall (sophomore) and Derek Morrison (senior). Congratulations to both teams on a great accomplishment.
