Salem Boys and Girls Defend Home Turf, Win Division 2 District Titles at Salem

The Salem girls scored 102 points to out distance 2nd place Poland Seminary (88) to win the division 2 Salem District track & field title Saturday. The Salem boys scored 121 points to win the title; Youngstown East was 2nd with 86 points. On perhaps the nicest day weather wise of this track season records were set. Jahniya Bowers of Youngstown East set the 100 meter dash record at 12.09 (-1.5). She was a double winner as she won the 200 meter dash later in the day (24.91). In the 400 meter dash, Ke’Aijhan Strong of Tuslaw bettered her own meet record setting a new one at 56.56. on Wednesday at Canal Fulton Northwest, Andrew Wenzel of Tuslaw set a new meet record in the pole vault at 14′ 00″. The Youngstown East 4 x 100 meter relay team of Jahniya Bowers, DeSahnte Allen, Laniya Lewis and Kyndia Matlock set a new mark at 47.75. Double winners for the day included Caitlyn Marx of Salem. She won the shot put (41′ 5.75″) and the discus (140′ 3″). Austin Hinzman of Coventry was a double winner in the jumps; he took the high jump at 6′ 2″ and the long jump at 22′ 00″. The Poland Seminary girls took 2 relay events. In the 4 x 200 meter relay Gabby Romano, Ava Izenour, Chloe Kosco and Mia Musolino ran 1:45.72 to get the win. They also took the 4 x 400 relay, Nina Centofanti, Sophia Thompson, Mia Musolino and Chloe Kosco covering the 1600 meters in 4: 03.84.
