Beachwood Girls, CVCA Boys Win Region 5 Division 2 Track & Field Titles

The Beachwood girls track & field team, led by their record-setting sprinter Mia Knight, scored 54 points to win the D2 Regional track and field title at Austintown Greenwood Falcon stadium Saturday. Akron St Vincent St Mary was 2nd with 42 points. Mia Knight not only set a record in the semi-finals in the 100 meter dash at 11.90, she came back and set a new standard in the finals at 11.72. The old record was held by Cachet Murray of Girard set in 2003. Knight came back and set a new record in the 200 meter dash at 24.17; the old record was 24.54 held by Allorian Horne of LaBrae. Knight will be the #1 seed in both the 100 and 200 going into the state track meet this weekend in Columbus. The Beachwood girls 4 x 100 relay finished 1st in 48.79. That quartet was Cayla Jeff, Ahsley Perryman, Maddie Alexander and Mia Knight. Leah King of Perry was a double winner taking the 100 hurdles in 14.17 and the 300 hurdles in 42.86.

On the boys side, CVCA had a dominating win gaining the boys title scoring 82 points to out pace Orange (48). Led by Tre Tucker, who left the stadium with 4 gold medals, CVCA started thing off Thursday night winning the 4 x 800 meter relay in 8:01.06. That quartet included Jake Malorasic, Dan Ripple, Colin Gaine and Sam Bush. On Saturday, Jay Patsch, Justin Luiza, Jonathan Solomon and Tre Tucker won the 4 x 200 meter relay in 1:29.09. Tucker won the 100 meter dash in 10.80 and the  long jump in 22′ 9′ to complete his 4 medal day.  Sam Bush was a 1st place winner in the 800 meter run in 1:56.60. The Royals finished off the day winning the 4 x 400 meter relay in 3:22.03. That quartet was comprised of Sam Bush, Jonathan Solomon, Jay Patsch and Colin Gaines.
