The sun was bright and shining at Boardman Stadium Tuesday (a rare thing so far in track and field) as the Red Tier Varsity teams met to compete in the AAC Red Tier Track & Field Championship. The Austintown Fitch boys scored 153.5 points to gain the championship. Boardman was 2nd with 111 points. On the girls side, the 4 x 400 meter relay proved to be the deciding factor as the Boardman girls and the Austintown Fitch girls were tied going into that event. The Boardman girls pulled out the victory going 4:05.88 to Fitch’s 4:06.92. Boardman girls prevailed 148 to 146. Meet records were set by Jahniya Bowers of Youngstown East in the 200 meter dash (25.06), Vincent Mauri of Howland in the 1600 meter run ( 4:20.00), Lauren Dolak of Austintown Fitch in the 1600 (5:11.57), the Youngstown East 4 x 100 relay team (48.83) members including Laniya Lewis, Kyndia Matlock, DeShante Allen and Jahniya Bowers, Khala Cameron of Fitch in the long jump (17′ 4.5″), Skelly Madison of Fitch tied the pole vault record (9′.00″).
