The Akron Firestone boys and girls track teams were successful in winning track and field championships at Ellet High School today. The boys team had an easier path to victory scoring 170 points to Buchtel’s 108.50 2nd place finish. AS for the Firestone girls, they had to place at least 3rd in the 4 x 400 meter relay to win a one point victory over 2nd place Buchtel. That they did. Buchtel won the 4 x 400 in 4:17.52; Firestone was 3rd (4:38.92). Final score: Firestone 164, Buchtel 163. Outstanding performances were turned in by Nevach Lewis of Buchtel. She won the 100, was 2nd in the 200 ans the 400. Ta’mesha Thompson of Firestone led her team by winning the high jump, placing 2nd in the 300 hurdles and 3rd in the 100 hurdles. Double winners included Jordan Baith (shot put and discus), Claire Moritz (800 and 1600) and Dyamond Myers (200 and 400).
On the boys side Buchtel featured Kirkland Robins who won the 200, won the 400 and was 2nd in the 100. D’eric Akili of Akron East was 2nd in the long jump, 2nd in the long jump and 3rd in the 100. Kevon Louis of Firestone was a double winner capturing laurels in the 110HH and 300 hurdles. Jaylen Johnson of Firestone won the discus and was 2nd in the shot put.
